In mid 90′s, some of the search engine content writers and webmasters introduced

words embedded in the content itself. Once done, the page would get ranked.
The importance of getting highly ranked in search engines was pretty soon

understood by people.

provided by webmasters regarding their web pages were used by the search engines.

It did not take much time for webmasters to start misusing this system pushing

search engines to create more complicated and refined form of search engine

optimization. The new system was developed considering several factors such as

domain name, the content within the title, term frequency, URL directories, HTML

tags, on page keyword density, Images Alt tags, sitemaps, on page keyword

adjacency, NOFRAME tags text, website content development and page keyword

sequence.

The new idea of internet web page evaluation was developed by google known as

pagerank which actually measures the quantity and quality of a particular web page

based on inbound links to that particular web page. This particular formula of

Search Engine Optimization was so successful that Google rapidly gained recognition by word of mouth and consistent admiration.

To hinder the misuse by webmasters, many of the major search engines such as

yahoo, Microsoft, ask, Google etc will never uncover the algorithms that are being

used by them when assigning page ranks to the web pages being indexed by them. These

days the most common methods of search engine optimization that are being used in SEO usually are link popularity, keywords in backlinking, canonicalization or link structure, keywords in title, keyword

density in website content, inner links to web pages , and many other criteria.
